Gelato Mixed Media Art Journal Page

I saw this phrase the other day on google+ that said, "Mother Nature Sees You". As soon as I read that it struck a chord, and I just had to put that in my art journal! (Yes, I am a spiritual person, and fully believe the phrase.)

So, this bright journal page came into being; revolving around that phrase. I've seen a ton of fall themed tags and cards on pinterest lately. (Pinterest!) I've noticed a good bit of leaves on those creations weren't the traditional fall colors and I love that! I love that it's outside the box. Plus, there are quite a few challenges right now that are fall/autumn themed, and it was just a fun page to put together working with a theme that was very doable for me.

I got down and dirty with mostly gelatos. It's been a while since I played with gelatos and they are just sooo fun for me to work with. Why dont I work with them more? I dont know...

The journal page is deff mixed media style. Included on the page is gelatos, texture paste, dylusions spray ink, a script stamp, two types of distress ink, two Tim Holtz stencils, and white acrylic paint. The spray ink seeped through the page down through the spine. I'm a little bummed about that because it seeped into pages that were already complete. wth?

As for the leaves, (my fave part!) I drew one leaf on a manila file folder and used it as a template. If you don't know what a template is, it means I drew one leaf, cut it out, and traced around it over and over so I didn't have to hand draw a bunch of leaves.  If you have a die cutting machine use that.

All of the leaves were traced onto a manila file folder. I am dead set on using the supplies I have right now instead of buying more. No card stock was in my house, but I do have a pack of file folders and gesso! SCORE!  The side that has gesso on it is the side I colored with gelatos. I love the bright creamy colors these give. Oh, and everything was sealed with gel medium because most of the products are water activated.

Back to the using what you have topic, all of the leaves I saw on cards were colored with distress inks, which I do have, but I don't have the bright colors I wanted to go with. I do have bright gelatos though! And if I didn't have gelatos, I certainly do have craft paint or colored pencils.

Use what you have peeps! It'll get very expensive, very fast otherwise. If you are new to certain things like colored pencils, water color pencils, etc., you can buy them at walmart and give it a go. Crayola makes decent pencils fyi. I've even see youtube artists do cheap art supply challenges with crayola! If you aren't fascinated with it, or you aren't loving it, then you spent less than $5.00 instead of $50.00

I'm so grateful you stopped by to see my creation. Thank you! XO

I'd love to play along and enter this journal page into the following challenges:
