Workin' 9-5

Mixed Media Tag using Tim Holtz Typewriter Die Cut

I  often have a hard time finding inspiration. I can go days without making things because I have NO ideas.  So many ideas came to mind with this theme from Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. I am going to turn to music more often for inspiration. The theme is: Inspired by a song...
I choose Ms. Dolly Parton's -Workin' 9-5. Seriously, who doesn't love Ms. Dolly? The lyrics that stood out for me go like this:

Workin' 9 to 5
What a way to make livin'
Barely gettin' by
It's all takin'
And no givin'
They just use your mind
And you never get the credit
It's enough to drive you
Crazy if you let it

Art Journal Page using Gelatos & A Coloring Book

Easy Art Journal Page Using Faber-Castell Gelatos, Coloring Book Pages, Texture Paste, & Stencils

Ohhh boy I am becoming a fan of these Gelatos! I think Gelatos make awesome backgrounds. They blend great. The color is vibrant. They are pretty much fool proof. The picture doesn't do enough justice for how pretty and bright the page really is.
I started with gesso on the page. When the gesso dried, I colored yellow gelatos in the middle of the page only. Before I blended the yellow, I went around the yellow with orange. I used a baby wipe to blend.one color at a time; first blending the yellow, then blending the orange. Make sure to blend one color at a time if you want to keep colors separate.

Next I went around a few spots with ranger texture paste and a prima stencil. I also used black archival ink through a Tim Holtz stencil on a few random spots, as usual. This stencil is my absolute fave! It coordinates with everything! Its my go too stencil!

But what if you fly?

Art Journal Page Using Inkadinkado Stamps, Craft Paint, Ink & Colored Pencils

I'm in love with this quote!

I used really cheap craft paint from Walmart for the background. I believe its all about the tools, and not the supplies. Does that make sense? For me, a good paint brush is more important than the paint. But everyone is different. Some people prefer the artist grade paint. Don't get me wrong, I do adore the "artists grade" supplies. But honestly, when I spend a ton of money on products, I hoard them. I have no problem running through a bottle of paint that was less than a pack of gum.

So, I used craft paint. Brown and yellow end up so warm and inviting. I love this color combo. I never thought I'd be so fond of brown. I did some stenciling using craft paint, and stamping using Archival Ink. The flying images are inkadinkado stamps. They were stamped on tissue paper first, then colored with colored pencils.

2016 Resolutions

I made this journal page in January before I started this blog. I think I'll share some of my past art journal creations too.

Because I made it a while ago, I don't have a step by step tutorial.  I did however list the supplies I used below. I just love the small sayings sticker book from Tim Holtz. I find myself using them a lot. The stickers are all positive phrases, and perfect for new year inspiration.
