Letters of Love

I'm so excited to share my Art Journal page! This art journal layout is themed around Valentines Day.

Love is in the air...

I used Distress Paint in Tattered rose, worn lipstick, and brushed corduroy. These paints are brandy new! These are new products for me and I'm starting to see what the Distress Paint rave is about. This is pretty awesome paint! I started my background with Tattered Rose. When that dried, I put on a few spots of worn lipstick. When that coat dried I went around the edges with brushed corduroy. Those colors came together so nicely! It all blended together so well.

Tip: Distress Paint is a quite liquid. That doesn't mean it doesn't do a good job. It's just something to keep in mind. There's many different types of paint that all work fabulously. Some paint is heavy, some paint is light-weight. Some paint needs watered down, some doesn't.

Tip : Unless you are blending colors together, you definitely need to wait until your first layer of paint of dry before adding more color. If you are applying the paint with the dabber and your layer isn't dry, the dabber will leave rings in the undried paint.
While my paint was drying, I got out the Vintage Typewriter die cut I ordered on Etsy, and painted it black. I'm not into card making (yet) and don't have a die machine. So, Etsy is the way to go for me for now.

I used a piece of  printer paper to trace the die. Then, I ran my silver tone ink pad over the piece of traced paper. My plan was for the silver piece of paper to resemble typewriter keys. I cut the inked paper and glued to the back of the typewriter. I found this ink pad at Walmart for $1.00!! I knew when I got it I'd find a use for it!

My Journal was completely dry by this point and my favorite part is now! Stamps and Stencils!! :)You can see there is stamping around the edges of the page. I also used a Tim Holtz small circle stencil with Distress Ink.

I found free printable post cards online. I printed them a few weeks ago and can't remember where I found these. It took me a while to find some small enough to fit on the page, I do remember that. The post cards were cut out, and inked with Vintage Photo. I'd love to link back to where I found these little cards for credit but I cant find them any where now.

Guess what? The little envelopes aren't envelopes. They look like it though right? I started folding paper and ended up with an envelope knock off lol.
At this point I glued everything down on the page. I like to wait until I'm almost done to be sure I like things. Once it's on there you can't take it off.
It was time for the point of the page to be stamped on- "LETTERS OF LOVE". The large alphabet stamp is recollections. The small alphabet stamp is Stampendous. Both were stamped with black Archival Ink.
The last thing I did was highlight around everything that was glued down, and stick on a bit of pearl bling on. What lady doesn't love bling?

No Creative Mojo

I'm either flooded with a million ideas and can't get it all out fast enough, or I have no ideas at all. Even when I have no ideas, my hands still want to create.

For about two weeks I was in a no mojo flow. Meaning, for two weeks I could not create if my life depended on it. My hands wanted to move, but my mind wouldn't let them. I started feeling like I'm not an artist. I started feeling like I was wasting my time, as well as my money.
I got stuck watching youtube videos and blog hopping. After doing that for a while, I got down on myself, thinking- whats wrong with me? These people can create new projects all the time, why cant I? Why don't my creations turn out like that? Many Artists are able to sit in front of a camera to record a video never making a mistake. I was feeling really bad about myself and my inability to create something. The more I saw other people creating, the worse I felt. Youtube was not helping.

Tim Holtz Bird Crazy for Romeo valentines art journal page

Every time I look at this page I chuckle to myself. This page makes me happy. These little birdies are too much! Juliette bird is so sad, and here comes Romeo to make her day with a wing full of heart balloons!

I started by putting gesso on the page. Distress ink in chipped sapphire and victorian velvet were added to the top of the page. I was NOT at all happy with the way it looked so I went over it with Distress paint in tumbled glass. I wanted the background a bit more bright so I added a little bit of my blue Gelatos.  I'm a little disapointed with the background color. I do wish I went with different color options. But hey, live and learn right? I'm doing this for fun, not perfection.

I am starting to realize art journaling can be an expensive hobby. I guess it depends on the products you like, and what suits your ideas. I wanted to make a journal page using my basic products and few little extras. I used what I had in my stash here.

Silhouette- Beautiful Smoke, Dylusions Spray

I am so encouraged by the compliments I received on my two posts, I had to make another art journal page ASAP!!! The comments and compliments were the fuel I needed.

Art Journal Page
  1. I started by drawing the silhouette image. The image was cut out and painted black. Later on it was glued to the page.
  2. The background was sprayed with 3 different Dylusions Ink Sprays. I love the bright colors!!
  3. I used three different stencils. I sprayed more Dylusions Ink through one stencil
    • The second stencil was a swirl stencil with black paint
    • The third stencil is a Tim Holtz small circle stencil and Archival Ink
  4. A grid stamp with black Archival Ink
  5.  A water bottle cap dipped in white acrylic paint touched down on the page a few times.

Hi there! Thanks for popping over here to see this page.

This journal page took much longer than expected, but it worked out in the end. I knew what I had in mind, and it didn't go nearly close to what I planned. Still, I couldn't be happier with the turn out.

First, I put Gesso down. This may not make sense to people who use distress inks. This is what worked for me. I tried applying the distress inks without the gesso and the page just kept sucking up the ink. The ink was NOT moving at all before the gesso. With the gesso it really spread out easier and I didn't get those big splotchy spots.

My first art journal page!

This is my very first post on my blog, as well as my very first time entering into challenges! (hopefully I do it right) Below is a project I created using Dylusions Ink Sprays, Stencils, Distress Ink, Archival Ink, Stamps, Acrylic Paint, and a water bottle cap. I guess we could say its mixed media.
